The government

         also passed

            additional amendments

       that gave

           African Americans citizenship

                and African American men

                the right to vote.

     These changes

         encouraged some

            to serve their country.

     The men

            in these new units

         soon became known

               as the buffalo soldiers.

     The Cheyenne

         are credited

             with giving this nickname

                 to the troops.
