The buffalo soldiers

          made sure

              that all the natural resources,

                  such as trees,

        were not destroyed

            as settlers

                 made their new homes

                    in the West.

     Life as a buffalo soldier

         was difficult.

     For the most part,

         their uniforms and equipment

             consisted

           of what was left over

                 from the Civil War armies.

     They generally

         had to do their jobs

            with limited resources.
